American Broadcasting Company
The American Broadcasting Company is an American TV Network which was launched in 1943 from its former NBC Blue Radio Network. It is a portion of Disney-ABC TV group and is owned by Walt Disney Company. It was first broadcast on TV in 1948. The corporate headquarters was in Manhattan in Upper West Side while the program offices are located in California near the Walt Disney Studios.
The formal name is American Broadcasting Companies Inc which appears in the copyright notices. It is also called as Alphabet Network since the channel has first 3 letter of English Alphabet. ABC currently operates more than 92 ½ hour regular network programs. It offers twenty two hours of prime time programming to its affiliated station from 8 to 11 p.m from Monday to Saturday and also from 7 to 11 p.m. during Sundays.

CBS Network
CBS Inc is a major US television network. CBS started initially as radio network. The name has been derived from the former name of the network which was Columbia Broadcasting System. It is also called as Eye Network in some cases or just “The Eye” relating to the logo of the company. It has been also named as Tiffany Network, which refers to the superior quality of CBS programs during the term of office of the founder William S. Paley in the years 1901-90. It also refers to the 1st demonstration of Color television by CBs that was formerly held by Tiffany & Co in city of New York which also got it the name “Color broadcasting System”.
CBS has its roots in United Independent Broadcaster which is a collection of sixteen radio stations bought by William S. Paley in the year 1928 which were later renamed as CBS (Columbia Broadcasting system). CBS became first biggest radio network in US and then 1 among 3 biggest broadcast TV networks in US.
CBs currently operates on a programming schedule of 87 ½ hours. It offers twenty two hours of prime time programs to the affiliated station from Monday to Saturday from 8-11 p.m. and during Sunday from 7-11 pm. The BBC Channel
BBC News channel is the 24 hour rolling news TV channel in UK. This channel was launched with the name BBC News 24 on November 9 1997 at 17.30. It was launched as part of the foray of British Broadcasting Corporation into digital home television channel, and was the 1st competitor for Sky News, which was running since the year 1989. After that there were many re-launches and the increase in fund and resources from BBC gave lot of improvements to technology for digital television. The channel has diversified content, with 2 small looped bulletins that were available for viewing through BBC Red Button, BBC mobile website and BBC News Online along with individual sports and weather bulletins.
During the month of May 2007, BBC news was available to viewers in UK through the news website in live stream. It was renamed as “BBC News” in April 2008 as part of the 550 thousand pound rebranding of news output of BBC news with new presentation and studio. CNN News Channel
Cable News Network, which is generally called as CNN is the United stated cable news channel which was founded by Ted Turner in the year 1980. When it was launched, CNN was 1st channel to provide 24 hour TV news coverage and the first new television network in US. When the news network included many affiliates, CNN basically broadcasts from CNN Center headquarters in Atlanta and the Time Warner Center present in New York. CNN is also called as CNN/U.S. for distinguishing it as the North American Channel since there is another international counterpart named CNN international. CNN has been available to more than ninety three million US homes when considering June 2008.
The broadcast coverage has been extended to more than 890,000 hotel rooms in America and the broadcast is seen only in Canada. Ion TV:
Ion Television is a TV network which started broadcasting on 31st August, 1998. The network is owned by ION media Networks which was called earlier as Paxson communications. The network has more than 94 million viewers in United Stated as of 2009. The network has more than ninety four stations in US out of which some are operated and owned. But despite the availability of the channel widely, it is watched very less in English language network in US apart from MyNetworkTV.
The network has altered its name from PAX TV initially to I: Independent Television in 2005 and after that it was renamed during Jan 29, 2007 as Ion Television. The network was actually named Pax Net, then to PAX TV before the launch by Lowell Bad Paxson in 1998. Ion has showed religious programs from “The Work ship Network” during late night hours and also from Christian TV Network.
There were new shows during the initial days like “It’s a Miracle”, “The Reel to Reel Picture show” which is a famous game show and talk shows like “Great Day America” and “Woman’s day” along with older shows like “Here’s Lucy”, “Touched by an Angel”, “Highway to Heaven”, “The Hogan Family” and “Dave’s World”. Fox News Channel (FNC), which is usually referred to as Fox News is a satellite and cable news channel which is owned by Fox Entertainment Group, one of the subsidiaries of New Corporation. Fox News is telecasted to more than 102 million households in US and international viewers and is broadcasted in New York studio especially. Fox News channel was created by Rupert Murdoch, a famous media mogul. Roger Ailes was the founding CEO of the fox news channel. The channel got launched during 1996 to seventeen million subscribers in US. The network came into prominence during late 1990s. Fox News has been rated as the most viewable cable news network in US and ranks ahead of MSNBC and CNN. The political commentary and new reporting of Fox have been asserted by many observers as the best channel.
The slogan used by Fox News channel is “Fair and balanced”. The slogan has been used in relation with the phrase “Real Journalism”. Fox News channel HD is the high definition multicast with 720p which was launched by Fox News on May 1, 2008. Almost all the programs that are presented in HD including Happening Now, Fox and Friends, The Live Desk, America’s Newsroom, Glenn Beck, Fox Report, Hannity, the O’Reilly Factor, Studio B with Sheppard Smith are all telecasted in 16:9 widescreen. National Broadcasting Company
NBC is the abbreviation of The National Broadcasting Company which is an American TV network headquartered in Network and has major offices in California. It is also called as Peacock Network relating to its stylized peacock which was created actually to indicate color broadcasts.
It was formed by Radio Corporation of America in 1926 and was the 1st broadcast network in US. The control of NBC was passed to General Electric in 1986 with its purchase of RCA for 6.4 billion. GE owned the NBC and RCA till 1930, after which it was forced to sell due to antitrust charged posed on it. Bob right was the chief guest after acquisition who remained office till his retirement after which he was succeeded by Jeff Sucker. NBC is presently part of NBC universal, a media company which is a portion of General Electrich which purchased the balance twenty percent stake of NBC universal that was owned from Vivendi.
NBC is presently available to 112 million households out of which 98.6 percent is through TV channel. NBC has operated and owned more than ten station and more than two hundred affiliated in US and its territories.
NBC currently operates eighty seven hour regular network programs. MTV Channel
MTV is an American television channel which is the short form for Music Television and is based in New York. The channel was launched on August 1 in the year 1981 for the purpose of playing music videos guided by the on-air hosts also called as VJs. Today MTV is playing limited selection of certain music videos, and it broadcasts different pop culture and many reality TV shows targeted primarily on teens. MTV has had a great impact in music industry and pop culture since its premiere. There are slogans like “I want my MTV” which were very popular among public and the idea of VJ was getting more famous. They introduced a dedicated outlet based on video for music and both fans and artists found a great location for music news, promotion and events. MTV channel has got referenced myriad times in pop culture by films, books, TV shows and musicians.
MTV has got various sister channels in United States and many international affiliate channels. The moral influence of the channel among youngsters including the problems related to social activism and censorship has been debated for many years. MTV’s choice to show programs not related to music has got into debate since 1990s, demonstrating the impact of the channel on pop culture. The CW TV
The CW Television Network is a television channel based in US and was launched during 2006-07 TV season. The CW is a joint venture of Time Warner’s Warner Bros and CBS Corporation. The name “CW” is extracted from 1st letter of the 2 corporations (CBS and Warner Bros). The channel presently airs programs six days a week. During weekday from Monday to Friday, the programs are presented in afternoons and evenings (primetime) and children’s programs are showed on Saturday morning. The channel has a series of shows which appeal to women eighteen to thirty four years old according to Dawn Ostroff, the President of Entertainment.
The CW was launched formally on September 20, 2006 and the first show was America’s next top model which is a 2 hour season premiere. Earlier UPN and WB were the two networks that were popular and these two networks were shut down and their executives announced to join together for a single network on Jan 24, 2006 The CW channel targets its programs primarily towards younger audience. The CW is the 5th major broadcast network. The CW channel does not provide sports or new programs to their affiliate. My Network TV
MyNetwork TV which is also called as MyNet, MNTV or MYTV is the television broadcast service of US, which is owned by Fox Entertainment Group which is a small division of the News Corporation. It is a sister company of Fox Network and operates independently. The service as chairman is overseen by Roger Alies by Fox Television Stations Group (FTSG).
MyNetwork TV was launched on Sep 25, 2006 and its early affiliate lineup covered more than ninety six percent of country out of which many were affiliated to former UPN and Warner Bros. On Sep 28, 2009, MyNetwork TV dropped its status as TV network after disappointment with its network results and transformed to syndication programming service like Warner Bros prime time Entertainment Network and Universal Action pack.
MyNetwork TV’s original format was targeted towards a English speaking population of age group eighteen to forty nine years old, with programs mostly containing telenovas starting with Fashion House and Desire. Actually it was aired during Weekdays from Monday to Friday as 13 week season with a recap of 1 hour during Saturdays and after an end of series in 1 week, a new series would start in the consecutive week. The 5th and 6th series, “Saints and Sinners” and “American Heiress” appeared 1 hour each week during Wednesdays after vanishing from schedule abruptly. The serial lineup of MyNetwork TV was telecasted in Australia as Foxtelenovela in W.Channel.
