National Broadcasting Company
NBC is the abbreviation of The National Broadcasting Company which is an American TV network headquartered in Network and has major offices in California. It is also called as Peacock Network relating to its stylized peacock which was created actually to indicate color broadcasts.
It was formed by Radio Corporation of America in 1926 and was the 1st broadcast network in US. The control of NBC was passed to General Electric in 1986 with its purchase of RCA for 6.4 billion. GE owned the NBC and RCA till 1930, after which it was forced to sell due to antitrust charged posed on it. Bob right was the chief guest after acquisition who remained office till his retirement after which he was succeeded by Jeff Sucker. NBC is presently part of NBC universal, a media company which is a portion of General Electrich which purchased the balance twenty percent stake of NBC universal that was owned from Vivendi.
NBC is presently available to 112 million households out of which 98.6 percent is through TV channel. NBC has operated and owned more than ten station and more than two hundred affiliated in US and its territories.
NBC currently operates eighty seven hour regular network programs. It offers more than twenty two hours of prime time programs to the affiliated stations from 8 to 11 p.m. Programs are also offered from 7 to 11 am during weekdays and also 2 hour Saturday and 1 hour Sunday editions.
NBC Nightly News – a news show, Meet the Press – Sunday political talk show, Early Today which is news program telecasted during early morning, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Last Call with Carson Daily which are late night talk shows, Saturday Night Live – a comedy show, Poker After Dark – a late night poker series are all some popular shows in NBC. Qubo was a 3 hour animation block showed during Saturday morning.
NBC is presently showing the famous soap opera – Days of our Lives, which is broadcasted since the year 1965. NBC’s daytime TV dramas which were running from the long time are “The Doctors” (1963-82), Santa Barbara (1984-93), Another World (1964-99) and “Passions” (1999-07). NBC has also aired famous TV series named “Search for Tomorrow” from 1982 to86 which was dropped by the CBS network. NBC aired many short lived soaps which includes Sunset Beach from 1997 to 99, Somerset from 1970 to 76, Texas from 1980 to 82 and Generation from 1989 to 91. There were also many game shows like “The Match Game” (1962-69), The Hollywood Squares (1966-80), Scrabble (1984-90), Wheel of Fortune (1975 to 89) and so on.
