American Broadcasting Company

The American Broadcasting Company is an American TV Network which was launched in 1943 from its former NBC Blue Radio Network. It is a portion of Disney-ABC TV group and is owned by Walt Disney Company. It was first broadcast on TV in 1948. The corporate headquarters was in Manhattan in Upper West Side while the program offices are located in California near the Walt Disney Studios.

The formal name is American Broadcasting Companies Inc which appears in the copyright notices. It is also called as Alphabet Network since the channel has first 3 letter of English Alphabet. ABC currently operates more than 92 ½ hour regular network programs. It offers twenty two hours of prime time programming to its affiliated station from 8 to 11 p.m from Monday to Saturday and also from 7 to 11 p.m. during Sundays.

Programs will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m during weekdays which included talk shows like The View and soaps like General hospital, One Life to Live, All My Children etc and during 7 to 9 a.m. Good Morning America along with 1 hour shows during weekends, nightly editions of the ABC World news, news programs in early morning like World News Now, “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” – political talk show during Sunday, American This Morning and World News Now early morning news programs.

Apart from that, sports programs are offered during weekend afternoons from 12 to 6 p.m. When there are no sports programs, ABC offers filler programs like movies or reality shows during weekend afternoons. ABC presently airs 3 soap operas during daytime as of Jan 2010 which includes “One Life to Live” (1968 to present”, “General Hospital” (1963 to present) and “All My Children” (1970 to present). Famous ABC soaps during daytime in the past are Ryan’s hope (1975-89), The City (1995-97), Dark Shadows (1966-71), Port Charles (1997-03). ABC has showed many TV programs in last 9 years including “The Edge of Night” from 1975-84 which was dropped by CBS network.  ABC daytime has aired “The View” which has existed since 1997. The View is presently a daytime talk show on network.
The game shows of ABC during daytime were “The Dating Game” (1965-73), Let’s Make a Deal (1968-76), The Newlywed game (1966-74), Split Second (1976-85), Family Feud (1976 to 85), The $10,000/$20,000 Pyramid. ABC has stopped taking game shows from 1987 and is the 1st of the major network to make such a decision. The only program shows was Match game during 1990 to 91 season. “ABC kids” is the children’s program channel specially dedicated for children. ABC aired programs from Walt Disney Television mostly and the most famous program was “Schoolhouse Rock!” which was an ward-winning series.
